In 2021, there were nearly 350 laser strikes on planes in Dallas Fort Worth - about one-third of all the cases in Texas. And the FAA says Texas was number two in the nation. Because of the layers of glass on an airliner, a single laser beam can light up an entire window, blinding a pilot.

Pilot Dennis Tajer of the Allied Pilot's Association says a laser can cause injury.

"It's very serious, it's an attack on our airplanes," Tajer said. "We can get blinded by those lasers, one or both pilots. And close to the ground coming in for a landing or after takeoff's, it's very serious."

California led the nation in laser strikes. Nationwide, the FAA says there was a 41 percent jump in the number of laser strikes from 2020 to last year.
