Texas Secretary of State John Scott resigns, to step down at end of year

The state's top election official will resign on December 31st.

In a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Secretary of State John Scott writes "When I took office as Texas Secretary of State I did so with a singular goal and mission in mind: to help restore Texas voters' confidence in the security of our state's elections."

Scott was appointed by Governor Abbott on October 21st, 2021. He oversaw the forensic audit of the 2020 general election in Texas and says he will release the findings before he steps down.

Scott was connected to an effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Pennyslvania. He says will return to his private legal practice.
