The 5th Circuit US Court of Appeals says the state of Texas is on the hook for $7 million in attorney fees because it lost the voter ID suit five years ago.

A group of Democrats successfully sued the state over the photo ID requirement that limited voters to six forms of picture ID before they could vote.

Attorney Ezra Rosenberg, who was on the winning side said: "The importance of the decision is that it confirmed the significance of the victory that we all got, and this was a collaborative enterprise on behalf of the voters of color of Texas, and in fact on behalf of all voters of Texas."

Rosenberg is expecting legal challenges to the new elections bill that is awaiting Governor Abbott's signature. He says there are concerns that could land the law in both state and federal courts.
