Texas survived Monday's blistering heat without power blackouts but ERCOT says things could be bad for the rest of the week.
On Monday all of Texas was on an ERCOT "conservation alert" from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. but enough Texans heeded the warnings that we made it through.
An ERCOT "conservation alert" is one step above normal conditions but one step below an "energy emergency level 1."
Just before 5 p.m. ERCOT’s online supply-and-demand dashboard showed demand surpassed the previous record. If that gets confirmed it would mean a new record for energy consumption, the seventh time this year that's occurred .
Last night, ERCOT issued an "Operating Condition Notice" for north-central Texas, a warning to be ready for "extreme hot weather with forecasted temperatures" expected to be above 103 degrees from Wednesday to Sunday.
ERCOT says an OCN is the first of four levels of communication it issues in anticipation of a possible Emergency Condition.
