African American Pioneers in STEAM

The African American Pioneers in STEAM exhibition is on view at the African American Museum, Dallas now through March 17, 2023. The family-friendly exhibition features approximately 120 replicas and examples of items invented or improved by African Americans, from the three-light traffic light and the first automatic transmission to laser cataract surgery.

Designed to inspire and enlighten, the exhibition shines a light on African Americans – such as Lewis Latimer, Dr. Marion Croak, Dr. Charles Drew, Otis Boykin, Marie Van Brittan Brown and Frederick McKinley Jones – and their many contributions while illustrating the exciting science behind the engineering feats.

American Athletic Conference Basketball Championships

Dickies Arena plays host to the American Athletic Conference Basketball Tournaments all week. Six of The American’s 11 members (including SMU) are located within driving distance of Fort Worth, so the arena should be rocking most of the week. The women’s title (and NCAA auto bid) will be decided on Wednesday night at 8. The men’s champs will be crowned at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The American Western Weekend

Cowboy up! The dirt will be flying at the American Western Weekend! Four nights…and 11 different sporting disciplines. On Thursday night the American Rodeo Contender Tournament Finals will be followed by a special concert from country music star Maren Morris...who is from Arlington! On Friday, the American Performance Horseman performance will be followed by more music from Sheryl Crow and Darius Rucker. And on Saturday, it’s the American Rodeo finals. The crowning moment in western sports will feature an extended performance from multi-platinum award winning artist Cody Johnson.

Conference USA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament

The Conference USA Championships come back to Frisco. The Ford Center at The Star plays host to the event with two courts and 22 teams. There are six games on Wednesday, eight on Thursday, four on Friday, and the two championship games on Sunday. Also there’s a free fan fest each day at The Star with Fan Fest Basketball Courts, pre-game Pep Rallies, food trucks, a beer garden, giveaways and entertainment.

Dallas Arboretum: Dallas Blooms

Dallas Blooms, the Southwest’s annual floral festival featuring the Great Contributors bronze sculpture collection is here.
