Two shooting deaths in two days in Dallas and both of the shooters were under 16 years old according to police.

The first incident occurred on Thursday when Dallas police say a 13-year-old shot and killed a 15-year-old when he thought the gun he was holding was empty. He has been charged with manslaughter.

Last week, officers were called about 1 a.m. to Alton Avenue, near the Old East Dallas Work Yard Park, where they found 14-year-old Jordan Perez shot in the head, along with the 19-year-old who had been shot in the hand. Jordan died at a hospital. Police arrested a 15-year-old for the murder.

Craig Miller is the former chief of police for the Dallas ISD and says what's alarming is that many of these shootings happen at parties that involve people of all ages as well as a mixture of drugs and alcohol.

"Since the pandemic, we have seen a big increase of crime often involving people who are in their early teens and more often involving guns," Miller said.

Officers seized four weapons while arresting the 15-year-old. He was part of the group that met Jordan at the park the night of the shooting, and detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying who else was there.
