The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District has cancelled classes for the rest of the school year as a result of the shooting Tuesday. Uvalde Police posted a letter to parents Tuesday night.
Uvalde CISD's last day of school was scheduled for Thursday with graduation Friday. The letter says classes and extracurricular activities had been cancelled, and the district was making a decision about graduation.
Uvalde CISD says staff would report to campuses Wednesday, and schools would have counselors at each school. The district says surrounding cities have also sent counselors who would be available to students, parents and staff at Uvalde's civic center.
"This is a tragic time in our district, we will come together to begin the healing process," the letter reads. "This is a difficult time for everyone, however the gentle support all school community members give to each other during this time is the first step in healing,"
Wednesday morning, University Health in San Antonio said the four patients sent there after the shooting had improved. A 66 year old woman was upgraded from critical to serious condition; a ten year old girl was upgraded from critical to serious; another ten year old girl was in good condition; a nine year old girl was upgraded from fair to good condition.
University Health says all three kids had family with them.
"Our hearts are breaking for the people impacted by this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts are with the patients, families, students, teachers, and the people of this community," the health system wrote in a statement.
University Health had been urging people to donate blood. Thursday morning, the system said all appointments had been booked and was encouraging people to donate in the weeks ahead.
