Violent crime in targeted areas of the city is down by double digits, officials told the city's Public Safety Committee.
"I hate using the term ‘All hands on deck.’ Seems so cliché, but it’s the focus of every member of this police department," Dallas Police Chief Garcia said.
Statistics show violent crime was down almost 46 percent in the "hot spots" compared to the period before the plan was implemented.
Of the 47 hot spots identified by police, 11 need to be carried over into phase two. High police visibility in these areas appears to be a crime deterrent. Aggravated assaults are still a big concern.
Violent crime was down 6.3% from January-August 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. Violence-related calls for service decreased by almost 15% in the hot spots, compared to comparable increases in non hot spots.
