Voters in the City of Mesquite and the Highland Park ISD both approved tax rate propositions on Tuesday's ballot.

Mesquite had a measure asking voters to approve the property tax rate that had been set by the City Council earlier this year. The rate was high enough for state law to trigger that confirmation election.
City officials had said they would use the additional revenue generated by that tax rate to improve public safety, pay for road repairs and construction, and to boost the city's cyber-security programs. Proposition A passed by a comfortable margin.
In the Highland Park ISD, voters approved a measure specifically authorizing property tax revenues for pay hikes for teachers and other district employees.
HPISD officials had said the district's average teacher salary was 24th out of 25 comparable school districts in north Texas, which made it difficult to hire teachers.
