Severe weather rocked across North Texas Monday night, messing with plans to attend Independence Day fireworks shows in several cities.

The heavy weather was past North Texas by 11 p.m. but it was too late for shows in Frisco, Denton, and McKinney. The Denton Fire Department announced the city's July Jubilee drone show had to be canceled, as was McKinney's "Red White and Boom" show.

A private fireworks display at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco was also canceled. Late Monday night, the Frisco Fire Department announced the show's pyrotechnics would be detonated overnight but it was not for entertainment purposes.

"Fireworks intended for a display at Stonebriar Country Club will be shot off tonight in accordance with state and federal law," the Frisco Fire Department wrote in a statement. "The fireworks cannot be transported outside of approved U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) packaging. The fireworks were set-up, wired, and prepared for firing. There is no way to return the fireworks to approved packaging and transport the fireworks in accordance with state and federal law. This deployment is not intended to entertain but is necessary for safety sake. Thank you for understanding."

To be clear, this was a private program prepared for Stonebriar Country Club. The city of Frisco's official fireworks display as part of the city's FreedomFest is still scheduled to go off Tuesday night following the completion of the FC Dallas soccer game.
