Manunt underway in Wise County after officer shot during traffic stop, suspect on the loose

A Blue Alert has been issued for a home invasion robbery suspect accused of shooting a police officer yesterday in Wise County.

Shots were fired when Rhome police pulled over two people on a motorcycle near the intersection of FM 407 and 2264. Police say the driver of the motorcycle got off the bike, pulled out a gun and shot at the officers, hitting one in the leg. The officer was rushed to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth in stable condition and they’re expected to recover.

Police say the man who shot the officer fled the scene on foot. He was later identified as 43-year-old Royce Wood. Police say Wood is a suspect in connection with a home invasion robbery near New Fairview.

A woman who was riding on the motorcycle with Wood has been arrested, but Wise County and Rhome authorities are still searching for Wood. Anyone who sees him or who knows where he might be is asked to come forward immediately. 

Police say Wood is 6'2, 200lbs with no hair (bald) a large beard and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap wtih a bandana around it, wearing a vest, green short and shorts.

Officials believe he is armed and dangerous.
