A U.S. 'Gas Tax Holiday' under consideration

When U.S. Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg testified before the Senate Commerce Committee Tuesday, he faced tough questioning over high gasoline prices, as the national average for regular unleaded remains well above $4 per gallon.

According to AAA, the national average was $4.20 as of Tuesday.  Buttigieg said legislation to establish a federal gas tax holiday is an option on the table.  Supporters say a suspension of the 18-cent-per-gallon federal tax would give drivers temporary relief from the current near-record prices.  Critics contend suspending the tax would do little to lower fuel demand.

CBS News Correspondent Scott McFarlane covered Tuesday's hearing. He joined Mike Rogers and Susy Solis with an update on the KRLD Morning News.
