Could we be in for a rematch during the 2024 Presidential election? According to a new poll, Americans are split on whether or not they would want to see it happen.
The poll, done by CNN, found that Democratic and Republican voters are divided down the middle on whether or not they would like to see President Biden and former President Donald Trump go head to head once again.
The survey, conducted between Jan. 10 and Feb. 6, reported that 51% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning independent voters wanted somebody other than Biden on the ballot, with 45% hoping he would be renominated.
As for the other side of the aisle, 50% of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters wanted Trump to be their nominee in 2024, with 49% wanting another candidate to step up.
When it comes to the Democrats who want to see someone else in office and why 35% said they don’t think he could beat the Republican candidate, 31% said they don’t want him to be re-elected, 19% said he is too old, 4% want a better candidate, 3% want somebody different, and 8% cited other reasons.
As for replacements on the ballot for the president, Senator Bernie Sanders led the pack with support from 5% of respondents, Michelle Obama received 4%, and Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg both received 2%.
On the right, Republicans who oppose Trump in 2024 cited several reasons, including 39% just not wanting him to be commander in chief again, 22% thinking he can’t win against a Democrat, and 38% going with other reasons like 9% wanting someone new, 7% thinking he is too polarizing, and 6% wanting someone with different traits.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was placed at the top of the replacement list for Trump, with 21% supporting him.
Others were named but only received 1% of poller support. Those named include Senator Rand Paul, Donald Trump Jr., Senator Ted Cruz, Representative Dan Crenshaw, and more.
CNN polled 1,527 voters in its survey and reported a plus/minus 3.3 percentage points margin of error.
