It's finally time for Christmas! If you aren't in the holiday spirit just yet, Disney+ has the perfect new series to spread some Christmas cheer.
The 1994 film The Santa Clause is among some of the most iconic Christmas movies ever. The story follows Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, a recently divorced dad who begins transforming into Santa Claus.
The story continued for two more films, with the last of the trilogy being in 2006, but Scott Calvin has returned to the North Pole! He's been Santa for three decades, and is having trouble keeping up with the job as his magic fades. He realizes it's time for him to retire, but there's only one question - who's going to be Santa Claus?
Fans of the original trilogy will be happy to see Tim Allen reprise his role of Santa, but there are also some new faces at the North Pole.
Austin Kane joined the Santa Clause universe as Scott Calvin's son, Cal Calvin. He joined KRLD's What to Watch team to talk about the new series.
Since Kane's character Cal Calvin was raised in the North Pole, he's become fascinated by the mundane, everyday tasks of those in the "normal world." Oddly enough, that's just what Kane was doing when he learned he was cast in the series.
"I was in the middle of my laundry, I got a call from my agents that said, 'Sorry, you didn't get the job. You were really close' and I was like, oh, you know, I mean, it is what it is. And then they're like, oh, no, you actually got it. And then I flipped out. It was crazy," he said.
Kane drew on some of his own personal experiences when portraying Cal, and says he hopes the show will inspire those who watch it to enter new changes with less fear and more smiles.
"What I hope they take away from it is that, at least kids my age, they're able to be comfortable in a new environment, because that's like, what our characters are kind of moving into the real world, and my character Cal is super gung ho, super happy about it," he said.
"I've had many similar experiences when growing up and going to high school, I wanted to transfer to this one high school when I got there, it being like a new environment. It was hard, and I didn't talk to anybody for like two months, I'd say, at least. So I hope people can learn to like be comfortable in new environments because that was something in the script. That was like super personal for me at least."
