There is a larger risk of death for people who have to be hospitalized for COVID-19, even if they're discharged after just a week.

Research from the London School of Tropical Medicine, the University of Oxford and clinical software provider TPP, found those hospitalized for COVID are more than twice as likely to go back into the hospital a few months later. And they're five times more likely to die, as people that don't have to be in the hospital.
Those researchers also say people with the most severe cases of COVID are more likely to have even more health problems in the months that follow.
They say hospitalization and ventilators can also negatively impact people's mental health, with memory lapses as one ongoing symptom.
