More than 1.5 million dehumidifiers have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission after 23 fires were reported by consumers using them.

The widespread recall was issued for 42 models of dehumidifiers with the brand names Kenmore, SoleusAir, GE, Seabreeze, and Norpole.

Affected models were manufactured between January 2011 and February 2014, and in total, there are an estimated 1,560,000 units impacted.

There have been 688 incidents of overheating and more than $160,000 in property damage connected to the faulty dehumidifiers.

The dehumidifiers were sold from 2011 to 2014 at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Sam’s Club, Sears, Walmart, and other stores across the nation, the recall notice shared.

The dehumidifiers affected had the brand name and pint capacity printed on the back, front, or side of the unit, and the model number is on a sticker. They came in beige, white, black, and gray.

Consumers who have one of the affected machines are advised to stop using them immediately and unplug them. They should then contact Gree for a refund.
