The number of Republicans who support former President Donald Trump more than they support the actual Republican Party is climbing.
According to a new NBC poll, 41% of respondents in August sided with Trump more than they supported the GOP, which is up seven points from May.
Conversely, 50% said they support the GOP more than they do the former president, according to the poll. That's down from 58% in May.
The poll was conducted following the FBI search of Trump's home from August 12-16, though its not clear if the search influenced the results. The former president is under investigation for potential violations of the Espionage Act and obstruction of justice laws. According to the New York Times, the FBI seized 11 documents during the raid, including some marked as classified or top secret.
On the investigations, the poll found that 57% of registered voters would like investigations into Trump's wrongdoings, revolving around the documents he had in his possession, to continue, while 40% of respondents would like the investigations to stop. By party line, 92% of Democrats want to see the investigations move forward, while 61% of independents and just 21% of Republicans shared the same sentiment.
The survey also asked respondents their thoughts on the current state of the nation, to which 74% said it is headed in the wrong direction. Only 21% of respondents think the country is on the right track, according to the poll.
Additionally, the poll asked how Americans feel about the upcoming midterm elections. Regarding who they want to control Congress, 47% said Republicans and 45% said Democrats.
