Only one Republican senator is publicly supporting former President Donald Trump's 2024 reelection bid.

Alabama Republican Tommy Tuberville told reporters this week that he will support Trump's candidacy for president and praised his track record in the Oval Office, The Hill reported.

Tuberville told Fox Business he is "100%" behind Trump's 2024 run.

"Look at what he did before he was kicked out of office. He had this country going in the right direction. He's not a politician, he stood up to the mainstream media -- they don't like him, I can understand that -- but he stood up for the American people," he said. "Look where we're at now... two years since Trump lost, this is devastating."

Tuberville also tweeted his endorsement, calling Trump "the leader America needs in 2024."

"You know what you're getting with President Trump," Tuberville told AL.com. "He doesn't have to learn the ropes. He knows the ropes. He won't be running again (in 2028). I like someone who will come in and say, 'Listen, I don't care. I will do what's good for America.'"

Tuberville, a Trump ally since the 2020 campaign, acknowledged that many don't like the former president "because of his ego" and that he talks "all the time," but he doesn't think that matters.

"He got elected doing that," Tuberville told AL.com. "A lot of people look at personality. I don't look at personality. I know President Trump. Had dinner with him a few weeks ago. (As a) Republican, I see what's going on. We don't have really control in our country with open borders and crime and those things. I'm looking for stability. I'm looking for someone who will make real, real hard decisions."

The rest of the Senate GOP conference is holding back, with the vast majority staying neutral for the time being -- waiting to see who else jumps into the primary, whether Trump gets hit with a criminal indictment, and how events play out before the 2024 Iowa caucuses.
