Support for death penalty hits 50 year low

Most Americans say they are in favor of the death penalty for capital crimes. But, the support is lower now than in the last 50 years.

The latest Gallup Poll finds 54 percent of people say they support capital punishment for murders. That's down from 55 percent last year.

It's been around that number for the last five years.

The highest support for capital punishment hit in 1994 when 80 percent supported it.
