One of the nation’s leading ride-share services is introducing a feature they say will increase safety of drivers and riders: the ability to record audio during any Uber ride.
According to a press release from Uber, at the beginning of every Uber ride, both drivers and passengers will be allowed to record audio for the duration of the trip directly through the app by selecting the “Record Audio” function.
Both driver and rider will be allowed to record the ride separately, and the app will let riders know if a driver is recording.
All audio will be encrypted and saved on the recorder’s mobile device. Uber will only obtain access if one or both parties on the recording email the company the audio file itself during a dispute.
The new feature will launch next month in three select test-cities.
