Could it become illegal for dogs to stick their heads out of car windows?
When Senate Bill 932 was filed earlier this year in Florida, it included a section that would have prevented owners from letting their dogs extend their heads out of moving vehicles on public roads.
After getting feedback from the public, Florida Sen. Lauren Book (D-Broward County) removed that part of the animal welfare bill, according to WFLA. She kept other parts of the legislation, which also called for an initiative to ban declawing cats.
This week, “Something Offbeat” host Mike Rogers talked to Dr. Melissa Bain, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the Cal Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, about the scrapped proposal.
“It can be a safety issue – the dog’s head is hanging outside the window,” she explained. “Certainly… they can jump out. So, there are... I can see their concerns… but I’m just wondering how they would enforce it.”
Book’s bill has not yet seen a floor vote.
