Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in Texas for the November election. November 8 is election day for state and federal offices.
In the primaries, the Texas Secretary of State's office said 17,183,996 people were registered, an increase of 4,682,704 from the mid-term elections in 2018.
While more people are registered to vote in Texas than ever before, there are also more people of voting age who have not registered. The Texas Secretary of State says the voting age population is 21,866,700, and only 78.6% of those eligible were registered in the primaries.
Four years ago, turnout in the gubernatorial election was 53% of those registered and 42% of the voting age population.
In 2014, the Texas Secretary of State says 14,025,411 people were registered, 74.1% of the voting age population. Turnout among those registered eight years ago was 34%.
