40 hikers rescued at Palo Duro Canyon State Park due to excessive heat

Forty hikers had to be rescued from a hiking trail on Saturday at Palo Duro Canyon State Park due to the excessive heat, according to a post by the Canyon Fire Department.

Temperatures reached upwards of 113 degrees at the park on Saturday when hikers had to be rescued, according to the Canyon Fire Department's Facebook page. The Canyon Fire Department, Randall County Fire Department, and the Palo Duro Canyon State Park personnel rescued the hikers on Lighthouse trail.

The Canyon Fire Department asked hikers to stay off trails during excessive heat.
