The U.S Attorney's Office of the Western District of Texas has until the end of today to file its notice of intent to seek the death penalty against Patrick Cruisius, the Allen man who is awaiting trial in the 2019 El Paso Walmart mass murder.

Crusius is accused of making the nearly 700-mile drive from Allen to El Paso specifically for the purpose of killing Hispanics he knew would be in that border area Walmart on a busy Saturday shopping day.

Twenty-three people died and Crusius is up on 23 federal counts of committing a hate crime resulting in death.

Both the federal prosecution and defense proposed and agreed to today's deadline date designed to give both sides plenty of time to prepare for the federal trial which is still nearly a year off, scheduled for January 8th, 2024.
