Texas Governor Greg Abbott wants every school district in the state to receive specialized training on how to respond to an active shooter situation. He's instructing the ALERRT Center at Texas State University to provide its Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training to all school districts, with a priority on school-based law enforcement. It's his latest response to the deadly school shooting in Uvalde.
"We cannot do anything to bring back the precious lives that were taken; however, we must do everything in our power to prevent the same tragic ending from happening again," the Governor wrote in a letter to the director of the ALERRT Center.
The training developed at TSU includes room entry techniques, shooting and moving.
The Governor also wants the ALERRT Center to conduct an after-action debrief of the shooting in Uvalde.
