TOMBALL (1080 KRLD)- The Texas Rangers may be called in to investigate last month's prison bus escape that led to the murders of a Tomball man and four of his grandsons.

Escapee Gonzalo Lopez remained on the run for three weeks until he murdered the four boys and their grandfather near Centerville. That night, he himself died in a police shootout in Atascosa County.

Now, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is calling on the Rangers to investigate how Lopez was allowed to ride on a prison bus where he escaped his shackles, forced his way out of a cage, forced his way into the driver's compartment where he stabbed the guard driving the bus in the hand and got away with the bus, leaving two guards behind. Among several questions Patrick wants answered -- was the prisoner fully searched as protocol required before getting on the bus.
