The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, and Texas would make abortion illegal as soon as that happens, thanks to a trigger law passed in Austin.

But, that new law would seem to go against what the people of Texas wanted.

A poll from the Dallas Morning News and UT Tyler back in May found that 53 percent of Texans are opposed to the High Court overturning Roe v. Wade. 46 percent say the states should have the right to decide abortion laws themselves.

With the ruling, there is no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion. Now, the Texas trigger law (Senate Bill 8) that was passed by the legislature last session will affect Texas in 30 days.

Immediately following the much-awaited Supreme Court ruling, Texas politicians reacted.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, "The Supreme Court correctly overturns Roe v. Wade & reinstates the right of states to protect innocent, unborn children. Texas is a pro-life state. We will ALWAYS fight to save every child from the ravages of abortion."
