The reward is now up to $50,000 as the manhunt widens for the escapee who vanished in Leon County last week.

Texas DPS officials identify Gonzalo Lopez as a member of the Mexican Mafia, considered by the US government as one of the most powerful, dangerous and feared criminal organizations in the world.

Last week, Lopez commandeered a prison bus about mid-way between Dallas and Houston. He stabbed the driver and drove the bus for about a mile before crashing it and making his getaway near Centerville.

The search continues and lawmen on horseback were combing rugged, rural areas in Leon County. Officials believe he is still hiding out in the area.

Lopez is doing a life sentence for a murder out of Hidalgo County.
