There are quite a few towns throughout Texas that have seen unprecedented growth over the last few years. Now, another Texas city is dealing with unexpected growth, however, not in the form they were hoping for.
A sinkhole in Daisetta, Texas that has remained stable for the past 15 years has once again begun expanding, and now many residents are worried their homes may be affected.
Earlier this week, Liberty County officials confirmed the massive sinkhole in Daisetta, which is between Houston and Beaumont, has begun expanding. The sinkhole first emerged in 2008 and was at first a 20-foot hole in the ground. However, it quickly grew to 900 feet wide and 260 feet deep, according to My San Antonio. As the sinkhole grew, it swallowed up oil tanks, barrels, tires, telephone poles, and several cars.
Now, after 15 years without growth, officials believe the sinkhole has expanded 150 feet in width and 150 feet in depth. People have been warned to avoid the sinkhole at this time. Maybe now the city will focus on fixing the hole instead of leaving it for another 15 years.
