"This is a huge step toward positioning Texas and our nation to lead the world on electric vehicles and with new charging stations, Texans will have more options to charge their vehicles," Congressman Allred said. "These funds will build a reliable network of stations across the state, paving the way for cleaner options for Texas drivers and create good-paying jobs."

In all, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program calls for $5 billion in charging station investment across the country, and Texas' share is the largest among all states.

Currently, there are about 100,000 EV charging stations nationwide; President Biden has made it a goal to expand that to 500,000 by 2030, along with EV sales comprising half of the U.S. automobile market.
