UVALDE (1080 KRLD) - The Uvalde school board met Wednesday and voted to dismiss police Chief Pete Arrendondo for his response to a mass shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

Arrendondo has faced criticism for his response and direction of the Uvalde Police Department during the May 24 massacre .

Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw has described the response as an "abject failure," with police identifying Arredondo as the on-scene commander.

The school board met in a closed session with the district's lawyer to decide the fate of the embattled police chief. The board voted unanimously to fire Arrendondo effective immediately.
