Uvalde schools police chief Pete Arredondo will not be sworn in to a seat on the city council today as planned.

Earlier this month, Arredondo won his race for a seat on the council. But Tuesday's meeting where he and several other new members were to take their oath of office has been canceled by Mayor Don McLaughlin who said yesterday, "we begin burying our children tomorrow, the innocent victims of last week's murders at Robb Elementary School. The special City Council meeting will not take place as scheduled."

The first two victims will be laid to rest today. Amerie Jo Garza and Maite Rodriguez are two of the 19 children murdered along with two teachers.

Arredondo has been at the center of a storm of angry criticism over his orders delaying his officers from entering the school for about 45 minutes even while the killer was still inside with a classroom of students.
