An apparent lightning strike started a large fire at a pallet factory in Johnson County Monday night, officials say.
Hundreds of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes were reported as the storms moved across North Texas. Just as the storms passed through Johnson County, a fire erupted at a company on Luisa Lane between Alvarado and Venus. The company produces wood pallets, which supplied ample fuel for a fire that burned all night, and may burn for days, officials said.
The pallet factory is completely gutted. It’s an outcome the owner says might have been different if there were more fire hydrants nearby.
“There’s none out here,” she said. “Don’t send me a fireman if he doesn’t have any water. You know, those trucks only carry so much.”
At this time, the fire is under control and there is no threat to surrounding homes and businesses. No injuries have been reported.
