A cluster of strong thunderstorms continue to barrel towards us at this hour. Over the past hour, some signs of weakening have been occurring but I'm thinking they'l start to ramp backup here over the next couple of hours as they plow through the area very slowly from northwest to southeast between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The threats right now: Strong gusty wind, dangerous lightning, small hail, and flash flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through 7:00 p.m. this evening and a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Jack, Palo Pinto, Montague, Cooke, Wise and Denton counties until 10:00 a.m.

Those of you that live in Collin and northern Dallas County need to monitor the flooding threat through early this afternoon. These areas saw 3" to 7" of rain on Saturday night.

I wanna stress, please do not cross watered covered roadways of unknown depth. Turn around and find an alternate route. I also want to remind everyone that it's illegal to move barricades that have been placed for flooded areas.

Storms should slowly move out of north Texas by this afternoon. Average rainfall totals will range between 1" and 3".

I believe we get a break in the rain later this afternoon through the evening, but there's one more chance of rain early tomorrow morning. After that, high pressure builds into the area in the upper levels of the atmosphere, a typical summer time weather pattern. Afternoon highs will creep towards  90゚ by Thursday and Friday and possibly into the lower nineties by this weekend. That's actually average for this time of the year. Factor at the oppressive humidity, heat index values will approach the century mark by this weekend.

Please remember to take the necessary precautions if you work outdoors. Water, frequent breaks, a hat, light colored loose fitting clothing and frequent breaks, and don't forget the sunscreen.
