Filtered sunshine, mild temperatures, a bit of wind, some strong to severe storms, and then a bit cooler. Those are your 7-day weather highlights as we start our new work and school week.

We're waking up the temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s at this hour. When the sun comes up, you'll notice high clouds streaming overhead. These high clouds will continue to move across the area through tomorrow.

Temperatures will be a little bit above average this week with readings in the mid-70s today through Wednesday. A south wind will pick up Thursday and Friday, warming temperatures and increasing humidity levels.. Some areas will reach the upper 70s. Morning lows will mainly be in the 50s to low 60s. You'll also notice morning low clouds sneaking into the area by the end of the week.

With the increase in southerly winds by Thursday and Friday, humidity levels will increase and so will the surface moisture. This moisture combined with a strong upper level disturbance, daytime heating, and a cold front approaching will increase thunderstorm chances by late Friday and early Saturday. Some data suggests the system will hold off until late Saturday and Sunday, but I'm going with the earlier scenario. I'm looking for a line of storms to come plowing through here while you're sleeping late Friday into Saturday morning. I'll continue to tweak the timing of this next system as the week evolves.

Rapid clearing will take place behind the front by Saturday afternoon, as cooler/drier air filters in. Sunday looks nice for now with morning lows in the 40s and 50s, and afternoon highs approaching 70°. Not a lot of cold air behind our next weather change.

I'll continue to keep you updated throughout the week on the timing of the strong storms towards the weekend.
