Could this (December 2013 cobblestone ice) happen again in DFW next Wednesday night through the weekend? It's looking more and more likely as new data continues to stream in.

If it does happen, precipitation will start as freezing rain and then change over to sleet. As of now, this will occour between 9 PM Wednesday and 9 AM Thursday.

Note: The attached temperature graphic from the national weather service, in my opinion, readings are way too warm for Thursday, Friday and Saturday...I'm thinking we don't get above freezing from 9 PM Thursday until Sunday afternoon of next week. Now, with temperatures staying below freezing from midnight Thursday morning until Sunday afternoon, we would be dealing with cobblestone ice, ONLY IF we can't get enough plows out to clear the slush off the highways.

To make matters worse, there MAY be another system next Saturday that will bring more ice to north Texas. I'm not believing this yet, but it's something to watch.

It may briefly get above freezing on Sunday, before another Arctic blast drops temperatures into the icebox early the following week.

The attached model data is showing almost an inch of ice across north Texas for next Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This is not in stone. I will continue to update the possible ice accumulations as we get closer to the event.

If this event does occur, I would start making  preparations starting next Monday or Tuesday for power outages during and days after the storm. Precipitation types will be freezing rain followed by sleet...the freezing rain is the main concern...this would accumulate on power lines and then tree limbs will crashing down over them.

Also, if this storm does evolve, plan on staying home from Thursday through the weekend. Therefore, you would need the following:

Food, water, flashlights, candles, firewood, propane, cash, coolers, full tank of gas, prescriptions filled, eldery, pets and homeless stay warm and generators.

I am trying not to jump the gun here, but one always needs to be prepared. I will continue to monitor the data as it streams in over the coming days and have updates all week on NewsRadio 1080AM KRLD.
