Much of North Texas was ice-covered and slippery Thursday after hours of freezing precipitation overnight. Ice build-up has caused some branches to snap overnight, taking power lines with them.

As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oncor reported 23,000 power outages. About 4,700 were in Collin County which started to ice up before other areas. Photos tweeted by KRLD's new partners at NBC 5 showed a heavy coating of ice on tree branches in McKinney.

Several fires were reported overnight, including in Plano, Dallas and Arlington. Investigators have not disclosed the cause of the blazes.
