They're not teaching basketball or baseball. These social distancing coaches from SEPTA are trying to help riders win the fight against coronavirus.
“We are giving them service information, because this is a time of great influx for everybody. We're out there as a reminder that we're here, we're on the system, it's safe for us and we want you to feel comfortable coming back,” explained SEPTA's Jessica Mangold.
Mangold is one of the transit agency's employees who also doubles as a coach.
During this program, which is held Tuesdays and Thursdays, they're handing out information and masks for those who don’t have one.
Mangold adds they want this to be a positive experience for their riders who may not be familiar with the new social distancing protocol.
“We're not there to correct behavior, we're out there to help people mask up,” she said.
The SEPTA social distancing coaches will be at stations across the region until the end of August.
