PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Marco Dapkey is one of the top CrossFit competitors in the country and the owner of CrossFit MFP in Haverford Township. He is also a cancer survivor.
Dapkey was a standout football player at Neshaminy High School. He had a lot of schools recruiting him to play in college, but then he was diagnosed with leukemia. That derailed his college football dreams, but he survived and now is thriving in the world of CrossFit. He talked about how the battle against cancer impacted him.
"It definitely gave me the perspective of, everything happens for a reason, that life has a plan and at that moment when seems things at their worst, try to tell yourself, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel," he said.
Now, Dapkey feels he came through the experience with a greater appreciation for life.
"I think people need to go through adversity in their lives where they are really challenged," he added, "because ... it really changed my mindset to be extremely positive. I'm not saying that's going to go for everybody. This kind of experience can only make you better. It made me appreciate things for sure."
