Bryce Harper's return to Phillies could be coming soon

PHILADELPHIA (Audacy) — It may not be long until the Philadelphia Phillies have Bryce Harper back in the lineup.

The injured outfielder, who is recovering from a fractured left thumb he sustained on a hit by pitch, is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, the minor league team announced.

Harper is expected to play with the team through Saturday, take a day off on Sunday and could rejoin the Phillies by Monday for their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Phillies entered Monday 1.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the final wild-card spot in the National League, and the addition of Harper could help them return to the postseason for the first time since 2011.

Harper, a seven-time All-Star and two-time MVP, was hitting .318/.385/.599 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI and a .985 OPS in 64 games this season before his injury on June 25. The Phillies have gone 28-20 without him.
