PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — April is usually the time when NFL players are on the field for off-season workouts, but it will be all quiet on the practice fields in South Philadelphia.

In a statement issued through the NFL Players Association, the Eagles have announced they will not be attending the voluntary workouts over the next few months. The players cited safety concerns due to the pandemic.

The players said, "The ongoing pandemic is obviously still an issue for our city and our country, and it is unnecessary for us to put ourselves at risk in this environment."

There has been no comment from the Eagles organization. Players cannot be fined for skipping the workouts since they are voluntary. A mandatory three-day minicamp usually takes place at the end of the off-season sessions.

The Eagles are one of several teams which have announced they will not participate in the voluntary workouts. Training camp is scheduled to begin in late July.
