The Birds are back: Training camp begins in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Birds are back.

The Eagles reported to training camp on Tuesday, and the team kicks off its first practice Wednesday at 10 a.m. in South Philadelphia.

After a busy offseason, the team and diehard fans have high expectations, building off of last year’s playoff appearance.

“Can’t wait,” quarterback Jalen Hurts told NBC10. “We put in a lot of work. Everybody’s been grinding, put the work in. When the time comes, we’ll be ready. We’re taking it day by day. Everybody’s hungry. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”

Heading into head coach Nick Sirianni’s second season, there is optimism that the team can make significant strides. After a 2-5 start in 2021, the Eagles shifted their focus to the ground game to win seven out of their next 10 games.

They ended up losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs but made major offseason moves to bolster both sides of the ball. They signed linebacker Haason Reddick. The Camden native and Temple standout filled a glaring need for the team with his ability to get to the opposing quarterback.

On draft night, the Eagles traded for star wide receiver A.J. Brown and selected Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis in the first round and his college teammate, linebacker Nakobe Dean, in the third round.

There’s a lot for fans to look forward to in the weeks leading up to the season. There is, however, only one open practice during training camp in South Philadelphia. It is on Aug. 7 at Lincoln Financial Field. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $25 for a VIP experience. All proceeds go to the Eagles Autism Foundation.

The regular season begins on Sept. 11 with a matchup in Detroit.
