PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Nick Nurse, formerly the head coach of the Toronto Raptors, to replace Doc Rivers as head coach.
The news comes almost two weeks after the team parted ways with Rivers following the Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA's Eastern Conference semifinals.
The specifics of his contract have not been publicly released.
Nurse, 55, spent five years in Toronto and led the Raptors to the franchise's first NBA championship in 2019. He won and lost a playoff series against the Sixers during his five seasons leading Toronto. The most recent one in 2022 displayed his and Joel Embiid's competitive nature.
Both have expressed respect for one another, and the Inquirer's Keith Pompey reported they met during this search, and it was a good meeting.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
