PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As if the Philadelphia Phillies’ powerful lineup isn’t enough of an attraction, a Jersey Shore institution joins the new lineup of food this season at Phillies games. Ocean City’s Manco & Manco Pizza leads off the new offerings at Citizens Bank Park.
Before now, you had to go to Ocean City or Somers Point to get Manco & Manco, But starting Friday, when the Phillies host the Oakland A’s on Opening Day, you can grab a slice in Ashburn Alley in the centerfield open concourse.
Manco & Manco Co-Owner Chuck Bangle said to expect an authentic taste.
“The first thing we did is make sure that we use all of the same proprietary products that we do at the shore, the sauce, the cheese,” said Bangle, who added he’s wanted to bring his Jersey Shore standard to the ballpark for a while.
“We are beyond excited. We are honored and humbled to be in the stadium. We look forward for doing a great job for all the fans and even shine a brighter light on Ocean City.”
It’s part of a continued effort to present local flavors at the ballpark, says Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck.
“The Manco & Manco is super exciting. Everybody talks about that. I could go down the whole list, but it’s good to have local brands support the team,” said Buck.
“I’m not even sure we did market research. It seems to make sense. We’ve done it over the years and each year we try to add one or two more, which is great.”
Other new tastes include Colbie’s Southern Kissed Chicken, part-owned by Phillies legend Ryan Howard, and KLYR Rum.
All fans going to the game Friday will receive a free fleece headband, while fans 15 and older will get a Bryce Harper “MV3” shirt.
This weekend will be the first chance fans have to see new acquisitions Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. Former second baseman and current Phillies ambassador Mickey Morandini says Castellanos will bring more than just power to the lineup.
“He’s going to make a difference,” said Morandini. “He’s a go-getter. He’s going to be great for the clubhouse. He’s going to push these guys.”
Fellow ambassador Milt Thompson said they will compete if they can avoid injuries.
“If they stay healthy, we’re going to have a lot of fun in Philadelphia,” said Thompson.
Fans will be watching, no doubt with their mouths full.
