PHILADELPHIA (94WIP) — In their first playoff appearance in 11 years, as the National League's second and final wildcard team, the Philadelphia Phillies are going to the National League Championship Series.
The Phillies defeated the defending champion Atlanta Braves in Game 4 on Saturday 8-3 to win the series three games to one, winning back-to-back games at home by a combined score of 17-4.
Noah Syndergaard got the start for the Phillies and was only expected to go through the Braves' lineup once, which he did effectively, allowing just one hit (a solo HR) and striking out three in three innings.
Brandon Marsh got the party started with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second.
J.T. Realmuto had two more hits to add to his postseason total, including the 18th inside the park home run in MLB postseason history, and the first by a catcher.
Rhys Hoskins came through with two more hits after his massive three-run home run in Friday's Game 3, including a clutch sixth inning RBI single to right field.
Jean Segura, the hero in Game 1 of the Wildcard series vs. the Cardinals, went 3-4 with two runs scored. Segura is now an impressive 7-18 in this postseason, his first and only career playoff appearance.
Bryce Harper had two more hits, an RBI single and a solo home run in the 8th. The reigning NL MVP is now 10-23 in six playoff games with three doubles, three home runs, and six RBI.
The Phillies will now play the winner of the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres series. The Padres lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 later tonight at 9:37pm E.T.
