PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Sixers star Joel Embiid has been back for five games after being sidelined for about three weeks with COVID-19.
His latest performance was a 43-point, 15-rebound and seven-assist domination over the Hornets Monday night — all in 41 minutes, mind you.
The Sixers wouldn’t have defeated Charlotte 127-124 in overtime without him.
Afterward, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Alaa Abdelnaby asked Embiid how he was feeling after being out of game action for so long.
“Man, I’m not even close” to feeling 100% again, Embiid responded. “I’m still feeling it. I get tired easily. Feel pretty weak. But every single day, I’m slowly getting better. So, I just got to keep pushing myself.”
He said his teammates push him as well.
Embiid entered the NBA’s Health and Safety Protocols on Nov. 8 and didn’t return to game action until Nov. 27. That night, he shared that COVID-19 hit him hard, causing difficulty breathing and headaches that were worse than migraines.
Embiid scored 42 points that night in an overtime loss to the Timberwolves.
The Sixers are 3-2 since his return, which has included off-shooting nights for him. But on Monday against Charlotte, he was 15 of 20, which is a promising sign.
