According to police, the incident happened Friday night just before midnight. The victims said they were living in a tent near East Tusculum Street and Kensington Avenue.

Police Inspector D.F. Pace said they believe that's where the 31-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were attacked.

"The two individuals appear to be targeted," he said. "The shell casings fell upon the various articles they were sleeping on or sitting on at the time. So both individuals were shot at very close range."

Both victims were shot at least twice in their legs. They ran to SEPTA Transit Police for help before collapsing.

The woman was last listed in critical condition while the man was stable. No arrests have been made yet.
