2022 Philadelphia Flower Show will make nature accessible with a return to FDR Park

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 194th Philadelphia Flower Show — which was moved to FDR Park last year and bumped out to June because of the coronavirus pandemic — will return to the South Philly location in about three months.

Sam Lemheney, chief of shows and events with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the organization behind the Flower Show, announced this year’s theme, "In Full Bloom," at the park on Monday

Lemheney said visitors will be invited to celebrate the beauty of nature and see how it can fit into their lives.

“And the butterfly exhibit this year will be unbelievable, with the plant life and flowers,” he said. “You can get up close to the butterflies. You can feed the butterflies. And this year we’re transforming that whole area into an unbelievable pollinated garden that will inspire everybody to go home and plant one — and we cannot wait for that.”

Lemheney says the designer lineup will feature the most women the show has ever hosted.

Displays will include themes exploring mental health, beauty, diversity, identity and sustainability. And, unlike last year, there will be interactive displays.

“Last year, because of the pandemic, we weren’t allowed to do a lot of engagement,” Lemheney said, “and I want to make sure that you all know that this flower show will be the most engaging, have the most activities, and really bring to life gardening and horticulture.”

There will be areas specifically designed for kids — and plenty of food, drink and music.

The Philadelphia Flower Show takes place June 11 to June 19. Tickets are available now.
