3 charged in 'wild west shootout' that killed innocent bystander in Norristown

Authorities are searching for one suspect, while two others are in custody

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men are in custody and a third is on the run, all accused of what authorities describe as a “wild west shootout” on the streets of Norristown that killed an innocent bystander, a double-organ recipient who got caught in the crossfire.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele says on Spetember 18, Barry Fields, 51, was sitting on the front step of his Astor Street home in Norristown, enjoying a sunny Saturday afternoon.

At that point, two men hopped out of a car and started shooting toward another group about a half block away.

Fields was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was not a target, nor was he otherwise involved in the shooting in any way.

His sisters said that in 2017, Fields was a double organ recipient, getting a kidney and a pancreas.

39 shell casings were recovered from the scene, according to a Montgomery County firearms expert.

One was believed to be from a ghost gun, an unregulated and untraceable firearm made from parts that are either homemade or purchased separately.

Brandon Darden, 25, and Joshua Agudio, 20, have been placed in custody facing charges that the District Attorney's office said include first-degree murder.

A warrant has been issued for Edwin Islas-Cruz, 23.

The criminal complaint noted all three men have previous convictions that prohibit them from owning firearms.
