PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One candidate now has a clear path to Philadelphia’s Fifth District seat on City Council, which is open because Council President Darrell Clarke is retiring at the end of his term.

Seven candidates originally filed to run for the seat, but two dropped out and four were knocked off the ballot by challenges to the signatures on their nominating petitions.

That leaves just attorney Jeff Young, who used to work in Clarke’s office. Young’s petitions were challenged, too, but the challenge was withdrawn after all the other candidates were removed from the ballot.

Candidates have until next week to appeal their removal from the ballot.
